Training

diversity, equity and inclusion

The training team provides customized training services for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) training. DEI Training is a high priority for the Inclusion Network. It can be challenging to convince decision-makers within an organization of the importance and benefits of investing in DEI initiatives. We take pride in the knowledge that in the past decade we have helped facilitate dozens of constructive and transformative conversations within organizations, businesses and agencies.

Take their word for it

“West Central Minnesota Communities Action staff have been participating in the Inclusive Networks Lunch and Learn Training Series and would highly recommend it to other organizations that want to include more Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in their work and within their agencies. The two Scotts are very knowledgeable and are absolutely excellent in presenting the materials, staff engagement and their true passions shine through for the work they do. We are very lucky to have such wonderful training opportunities right here in our community."

-Heather Molesworth

Director of Family and Community Services and Operations

“(These topics were) very refreshing to talk about in my small group. I hear a lot of the opposite kind of talk and now I have more tools and courage to combat the negative talk I hear in our community.”

“I appreciated the techniques and suggestions on how to change the narrative of ‘All Lives Matter,’ changing the focus back to ‘Black Lives Matter,’ so we can have a more authentic Allyship and eliminate White Fragility.”

“These DEI sessions are always ‘eye-opening.’ Great knowledge and information was provided! You make a person really dig in deep and open their thoughts."

“My ‘Aha moment;’ being more intentional to choosing my words wisely. Thank you for bringing awareness and helping us move toward change!”

Training Options

First Thoughts Exercise

Participants are invited to explore some of their hidden thoughts and assumptions about folks different than themselves through this exercise. Objectives include defining and exploring stereotypes and biases that we are exposed to in our daily lives. There will also be time to discuss the implications for our home, workplace and community.

Privilege Walk Exercise

Participants will have the opportunity to raise their awareness of the various forms of privilege through this  emotionally engaging exercise. The goal is to help participants recognize how privilege affects their personal lives as well as the lives of others in their community and world.

The Diversity Iceberg

Do you know your neighbor, co-worker or committee member as well as you think you do? How accurate is the first impression of a person you just met? Join us as we explore the dimensions of diversity and ponder how the “hidden” dimensions affect our interactions with others. Objectives include defining diversity, inclusion and equity. Exploring how our lasting impressions/assumptions affect those we work and live with.

The OUCH Video

Stereotypes hurt! When we stay silent in the face of demeaning comments, stereotypes or biases we allow these attitudes and behaviors to continue. Most people who want to speak up don't know how, so say nothing. Participants will experience the impact of stereotypical comments, explore why people don't speak up, and learn techniques for speaking up without blame or guilt.
